HYDERABAD: Following the assurance given to BC Welfare
Association president R Krishnaiah the state government issued an order today,
sanctioning 300 hostels for backward class boys pursuing higher studies.
The hostels sanctioned for each district are as given
below: Srikakulam (10), Vizianagaram (9), Visakhapatnam (15), East Godavari
(19), West Godavari (15), Krishna (16), Guntur (17), Prakasam (12), Nellore
(10), Chittoor (16), Kadapa (10), Kurnool (14), Ananthapur (15), Mahabubnagar
(15), Rangareddy (14), Hyderabad (15), Medak (10), Nizamabad (10), Adilabad
(10), Karimnagar ( 13), Warangal (12), Khammam (10) and Nalgonda (13).
The ratio of admission to boys hostels will be the same as
to girls hostels _ BCs 69 pc, SCs 15 pc, STs 6 pc and minorities 10 pc. Separate
orders will be issued on allocation of budget and creation of posts and other
contractual services.
The government had, two years ago, sanctioned 300 hostels
for BC girls. Since then Krishnaiah had been demanding hostels for boys too.
He sat on an indefinite hunger strike on June 25 and broke
the fast on an assurance given by the government that boys hostels would be set
up.
The director of BC welfare has sent a proposal seeking
sanction of 300 posts of hostel welfare officer and 900 contract employees. He
also sought Rs 20 crore.
Rosaiah had announced on April 11, the birth anniversary of
Mahatma Jyothirao Phule, to sanction 300 college hostels for BC boys.
