HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister Dr K Rosaiah today chaired
the 13th meeting of the Governing Council of the Nizam's Institute of Medical
Sciences (NIMS) at his residence. The Governing Council meeting decided to
constitute a search committee for selection to the post of Director, NIMS. The
search committee will be headed by the Minister for Medical Education, Mr.
Sudarshan Reddy, Dr. Shantaram and Dr. I.V.Rao, Vice Chancellor, Dr. NTR
University of Health Sciences. The term of appointment of the present Director
Dr. D. Prasada Rao will be coming to an end on 29-9-2010. The new Director will
have to be selected before that.
Dr. Prasada Rao explained to the Chief Minister various
aspects of the functioning of the NIMS and the Academic Programmes.
It was also decided to appoint an expert committee of
eminent persons to decide about running the NIMS University campus in 161 acres
of land allotted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh at Rangapur Village,
Bibinagar Mandal, Nalgonda District, the construction of which is almost
completed. The road net work, including storm water drains, parking, flooring
are almost completed, framework for electrical substation and sump also
completed. The Expert Committee will study the issue in detail and submit
report to the government very soon.
The meeting also discussed about the academic activities
like various courses including Nursing, Para medical and hospital management
courses, P G Diploma and Ph.D Courses being offered by NIMS and also
functioning of the NIMS Hospital and its developmental activities. The meeting
also reviewed issues like operationalisation of Pradhan Mantri Swastya Suraksha
Yojaana (PMSSY) blocks etc.

attended the meeting.
