HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister Dr K Rosaiah today asked the
District Collectors and other officials to increase the medical camps in all
the affected areas particularly where rains are heavy and consistent. He also
asked the District Collectors and other officials to concentrate on repairs and
restoration of breaches and also evacuation of people from low lying areas to
safer places.
The Chief Minister Dr. Rosaiah reviewed the latest
situation following heavy rains in some of the districts with Ministers and
officials at Secretariat. He also directed the Chief Secretary and other top
officials to be in constant touch with the district Collectors regarding the
measures to meet the situation whenever and wherever necessary.
The Chief Minister told the officials that since there are
reports of breaches of minor tanks, it should be repaired immediately and be
vigilant against further breaches. He wanted water to be drained out from the
inundated areas. He asked the officials to direct all the line departments to
coordinate and see that normalcy is restored in all the rain-affected areas. Dr
Rosaiah wanted the officials to ensure supply of safe and pure drinking water
in all the areas. "Prevention is always better than cure", he told the
officials cautioning against spread of any epidemics in the rain-affected
areas.
The Chief Minister asked the Commissioner, GHMC to take
care of damages to city roads and low lying colonies and areas in the GHMC and
see that the colonies are not inundated by taking suitable steps. He also asked
the R&B, Panchayatiraj to take care of road damages and breaches. He also
wanted the officials to concentrate on sanitation in all affected areas. He
also wanted food packets and water packets to be distributed to all areas
wherever needed.
As per the details furnished by the Commissioner, Disaster
Management to Chief Minister today, the rainfall as on 06.09.2010 in the
State as a whole is (+) 34% [i.e., 698.5mm as against the normal rainfall of
520mm], Coastal region: (+) 49% [737.0 mm Vs 494.9 mm], Rayalaseema region: (+)
42% [443.0mm Vs 312.9 mm] and Telangana region: (+) 27% [791.6mm Vs
625.4mm] .
Rainfall status: Excess - 19 districts and above and
normal – 4 Districts.

Maximum rainfall is recorded in Guntur district with 83%
excess over its normal, while minimum rainfall is recorded in Nizamabad
district with -0.2% shortfall to its normal rainfall in the district. Costal
Andhra region recorded highest average rainfall of 737.0 mm as against the
normal rainfall of 494.9 mm with a deviation of (+49%). Rayalaseema region
recorded rainfall of 443.0 mm as against the normal rainfall 312.9 mm with a
deviation of (+42%). Telangana region also recorded rainfall of 791.6 mm as
against the normal 625.4 mm with a deviation of (+27%).

excess rainfall:

Minor Irrigation tanks damaged: 2055, Extent of Roads damaged (Kms) 11,175 (R&B
and Panchayat Raj Depts).
IV. List of villages likely to be submerged: 681, due to
Floods in the Rivers – Godavari, Krishna, Vansadhara & Nagavali as estimated by
A.P.State Remote Sensing Agency Centre.
