The Chief Minister Dr K
Rosaiah today congratulated all the sports persons from Andhra Pradesh who won
medals and brought laurels to the State in the XIX Commonwealth Games which was
held in Delhi.
The Chief Minister has
announced a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs to the winners of Gold medal, Rs.7.50
lakhs to the Silver medal winners and Rs.5 lakhs to the Bronze medal winners. A
public reception will be held to honour these medal winners at Hyderabad after
the Dasara festival.
The Minister for Sports,
Mr.Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy today met the Chief Minister at camp office and
briefed him about the State’s achievement in the Commonwealth Games.
Mr. Gagan Narang who hails
from Hyderabad won Four Gold medals in Shooting events; Jwala Gutta & Aswini
won Gold medal in Shuttle Badminton (Doubles); Saina Nehwal won Gold Medal in
Shuttle Badminton; Ashar Nooria won Silver medal in Trap Shooting Event (Team);
Ms.Sania Mirza won Silver on Lawn Tennis; and Ch.Jignas & Tirual Chaterjee won
Silver in Archery (Team Championship in Compound Event).
Ms.Satti Geetha won Bronze
in Athletics 4x100 Mts. Relay (Women); Mr.Abdul Najeeb Khureshi won Bronze in
Athletics, 4x100 Mts. Relay (Men); Mr.V.Srinivas Rao won the Bronze Medal in
Weight Lifting in 56Kg Category and Mr.Kashyap won Bronze in Badminton event.
Ms. Saina Nehwal won India
the 38th Gold Medal and helped India get the second position in the Games.
The Chief Minister also
congratulated Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia
Gandhi, the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and the organisers of the
Commonwealth Games for the successful and smooth conduct of the Games.
