HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Rosaiah has been appointed as
the member of the National Mission Authority (NMA) of National Mission for
Empowerment of Women (NMEW) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Rosaiah is the only chief minister from the Congress-ruled
states and one among the only two chief ministers nominated to the NMA along
with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. The ministry of women and child

The NMEW is aimed at speedy socio-economic development,
empowerment of women and ensuring coordinated implementation of women-centric
and women-related programmes of the government.
The key functions of the National Mission include economic
empowerment of women, elimination of violence against women, social empowerment
of women with emphasis on health and education, etc. It will also undertake
awareness generation and advocate activities to fuel the demand for benefits
under various schemes and programmes.
Expressing happiness on being selected for the NMA, chief
minister K Rosaiah said that empowerment of women was crucial for the
development of a nation.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need for a special focus
on implementation of education programmes for women and the girl child. “The
