Ladies & Gentlemen
I
am extremely happy to be here at the Symposium on Integrating values in ‘Man-The
Sai Way’ amongst you all. Let me first congratulate the members of Sri Sathya
Sai Seva Organizations for rendering selfless service to this state of Andhra
Pradesh and as a matter of fact to the entire country and elsewhere also. The
help that has come forward in innumerable occasions from Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai
and His Trust during several crisis situations is extremely commendable must be
mentioned here specifically.
Over the years, we have made
tremendous advances in science and technology that have made our lives
physically very comfortable. These advances however have not brought in to
Man’s life, inner happiness. We are more stressful and dissatisfied than
ever before with all the strife that is going around us. Immoral behavior,
immodest life-styles are becoming a way of life. The inst6itution of
marriage, which is considered sacred by all religions of the world, is losing
its sanctity.
India has been known from
ancient times for its rich and cultural heritage. Where is the Spiritual
growth, our country is so famous for? It has almost disappeared.
The institutions that
promoted spiritual growth have been undermined or abolished or are lost behind
the hi-tech industry, technology and modern nucleus families. Our Gurukula
system was displaced by Western style education and today respect to elders and
teachers is fast declining. In the name of secularism, spirituality has
been kept away from whole generations.
We have come to believe that
Education, Science & Technology has answers for all of the present-day
problems. Today ask any kid what we can do to end this strife and problems; he
will immediately go to Google on a computer for an answer.
Will we survive is the
question that I would like to ask you with these technological advances? The
answer is definitely a “Yes”, But how?
With values- the Human
values- Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi, Prema and Ahimsa. But in today’s scenario,
values and Education are deteriorating. Why is this happening so? Who are the
people who need to take this responsibility to give us a better society with
Values to live in?
The answer I have is that
the three important people of the society have to take up a major
responsibility, the Mother, the Father and the Teacher. If these three persons
do their job to the best of their ability… some of the problems that I just
quoted above would slowly vanish.
Satya-Truth, Dharma-Right
Action, Shanthi-Peace, Prema-Love and Ahimsa-Non-Violence should be like the
five senses of our body… they need to be a part of every day living.
Our survival revolves around
leading our lives according to Human Values, which are universally accepted, by
every faith and philosophy in the world. Right from the vedic times, in every
religion be it the Islam, the Christianity, the Buddhism, the Jainism or the
Hinduism, all the religious texts speak of these values.
Our elders have always said
that these five values are the life breaths of every human being. Practicing
these values with a loving heart will fulfill the quest of the intellect for
Truth and channel the will into Right Action.
Properly applied and
harmonized within the human being, these values will help us resolve the
conflicts of human emotions and interactions, bringing inner and outer Peace,
which is the need of the hour today. With an attitude of Non-Violence, the
heart will expand to develop respect for all creations. Friends - Love, Love
and Love is the source and sustenance for all the values.
The human body, we are all
born with is the perfect example of a selfless system. Our eyes, hands, head,
stomach, all of them look different and do only one specific thing. But they
all work together to make one body move and do its daily work. They do not work
against each other, do they? If all of us are like a limb in the body called
the society- Samajam, the need has come for all of us to work together to work
for this Samajam. For being together, we need values and that values are the
five values that Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is trying to resurrect and has
done too successfully amongst his millions of devotees across 175 countries.
If you all co-operate fully
to the improvement of your society just as your body cooperates with you to make
you healthy and happy, the society and the state and ultimately the nation will
be healthy, happy and prosperous.
Baba says, “My Life is My
Message”. It truly is… Now, let us make our lives His Message… I am sure; we
would have a better world to live in. Remember friends, a better “I” makes a
better world.
I recollect two wonder
quotations of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai way back in Sep 26, 1965 which I would
like to share with you:
Love as thought is truth.
Love as action is Right
Conduct.
Love as feeling is Peace.
Love as understanding is
non-violence.
Love is Selflessness,
Selfishness is lovelessness.
Love gives and forgives,
Selfishness gets and forgets.
The need has come for us
today to practice this in true perspective…
I would like to conclude my
address with the second quote:
There is only one religion –
The religion of Love
There is only one caste –
the caste of Humanity
There is only language of
the heart – Listen to what your conscience says… not your
Monkey mind
And finally, there is only
one God – He is all pervading.
Before I conclude, I once
again congratulate Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organizations and the Sri Sathya Sai
Trust for all their accomplishments and wish them the success in its future
endeavours. Wishing all the devotees of Sri Sathya Sai, a Holy 85th Birthday
celebrations of their Lord…Spread the message of Love and Brotherhood which is
the prime teaching of Sri Sathya Sau Baba and we shall all be happy today
tomorrow and ever after.
