HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister Dr.Rosaiah today asked the
R&B Department to immediately take up reconstruction and repair of all damaged
roads throughout the State. Dr Rosaiah asked the Finance department to release
the required funds for these works under various heads and as per the
requirement, additional funds also will be released. The Chief Minister today
held a review meeting on the flood damages to the road networks in the State
with R&B, GHMC and Finance department officials at camp office.
The Chief Minister was explained that in all 8705 kms of
road surface were damaged and at some places there were heavy damages. There
were also 90 breaches and so far 78 breaches were restored. He was told that
there were 461 traffic interruptions and 444 out of this were restored. While
there were 1128 mandals affected by heavy rains, average rainfall of 80 days
were reported during the period from 1-6-2010 to 18-9-2010. The Chief Minister
was told that 954 kms of road surface damaged in Kurnool district and 425 kms
in Nalgonda district. Continuous rains since June 2010 worsened the road
conditions.
All S.Es and E.Es were instructed to take up restoration
works on War footing to restore traffic, E.N.Cs and C.Es have been deputed to
the districts to monitor the restoration Works and at 444 locations traffic
restored against 461 interruptions, Minister R&B reviewed on 17th and 18th
September the condition of roads due to heavy rains and follow up action taken
by the Department. Dr Rosaiah was informed by the department that all works
will be taken up on war footing and will be completed at the earliest.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister also asked the Commissioner,
GHMC to immediately take up reconstruction, repair and resurfacing of roads.
The Commissioner explained that the tenders are called for and finalised and
once the rain stops, work will begin on war footing and will be completed in
just 10 days time.
