Chief
Minister K. Rosaiah on Sunday said that training in the National Cadet Corps (NCC)
was the starting place for nurturing the leadership qualities in youth.
Addressing cadets at the 62nd NCC Day
celebrations here, he said the NCC cadets would learn many things that would
help them find a place as worthy citizens in society. He told them to make full
use of the facilities being made available.
Mr. Rosaiah recalled that the corps, with 13 lakh cadets
countrywide, was considered the largest such youth body across the world. Their
strength in the State comprised 10 per cent of the number. He appreciated the
cadets' endeavour in planting 2.4 million saplings throughout Andhra Pradesh on
July 16 this year. They were contributing significantly in improving traffic
awareness.
Awards
Earlier, the Chief Minister gave away the Best Cadet Award
to Tejaswini Manogna from the Secunderabad NCC Group. The Kakinada Group bagged
the Mandatory Conditions Trophy and the Championship Banner, which were
received by Group Commander Siddiqui. NCC Deputy Director-General A.S. Behal
was present. After reviewing an impressive parade, Mr. Rosaiah received a
standing salute by a cadet riding a horse before staying back to watch the
cadets display the skills which included show jumping and tent pegging, control
line and remote controlled flying of miniature aircraft and formation flying by
two micro-light aircraft.
Rifle drill
What stole the
limelight was the synchronised drill with rifles by 16 cadets from the Warangal
Group. The precision with which their leader walked through between them as
they exchanged their rifles drew applause. Also eye-pleasing was ‘Bharateeyam',
a mass physical training sequence combining yogic postures and the traditional
‘malkhamb'.
