HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has stressed the need
for close coordination among the political leadership and bureaucratic
machinery to ensure delivery of services to the satisfaction of the
people.
The
Chief Minister said any governance will sustain as long as it continues
to be sincere, committed and credible as the people look at the
credibility of the government, bureaucracy included. Dr. Reddy was
delivering the inaugural address at the 83rd foundation course for
central civil service officers organised at the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy
Human Resource Development Institute here on Tuesday.
Elaborating on the role of bureaucracy in effectively implementing
political leadership’s decisions, he said given the situation where
illiteracy, poverty and social stigmas were still prevalent, it was
absolutely necessary to have a committed bureaucratic set up as
political leadership alone would not be sufficient.
Explaining the initiatives launched by his government in the past five
years, he said people would test the government after five years and
vote back if they were satisfied by the delivery of services. In this
context, he said people re-elected the Congress in the recent elections
in spite of “promises of providing heaven” made by the Opposition as
they believed that his government was a performing one.
Reserve Bank of
India former Governor Y.V. Reddy lauded the development achieved in
Andhra Pradesh over the past five years. The State could strike a
balance between urban-rural sectors, agriculture, manufacturing and
services sectors and could achieve growth with social justice.
Asserting that Andhra Pradesh was set to play an important role in
future, he wanted the Officer trainees to “learn Telugu in their own
interests”.
MCR
HRD Institute director general V.P. Jauhari explained about the
activities in the three-and-a-half month course to 182 officer trainees
including 41 women belonging to Indian Revenue Services, Indian Railway
Traffic Service, Indian Economic Services and other disciplines of
civil services.
